Hello, my name is Rachelle Smith, and I am the head teacher and administrator for Fairyland Preschool. I am originally from Huntsville, Alabama, and have lived in Utah for about seventeen years.  I studied English and Music at the College of Idaho, and during college began working with children on the autism spectrum and became certified in Behavior Modification and Habilitation Therapy.  I have also taught preschool and accelerated pre-k, and I have also been a reading specialist at a private preschool, and I am trained in Montessori-style teaching, and have my Child Development Associates. I am currently working on an Endorsement in Guidance and Emotional Wellness. I was a bookseller for over a decade, and spent a few years of this time working with schools and non-profits, helping them get the books they need.  My personal library is, unsurprisingly, massive!  I have also tutored school-age children in math and reading. I belong to the Utah Montessori Council, Highscope, and the Association for Childhood Education International.

I spend my free time watching movies with my husband, Oliver, or hiking in the mountains when the weather is warm.  I have my own craft business, and on weekends you can usually find me crocheting, at arts & crafts events, or promoting Craft Lake City as a longtime contributing artist.  I have also co-authored three crochet books, and I’m working on my first solo book!

I am so excited to work with your children at Fairyland, and I cannot wait to meet them!

My name is Ilse Wilson, and I am the owner, teacher, cook, and accountant at Fairyland – My Family Child Care program. My passion is childcare and that resonates in the quality I strive for in my home! I am an NAFCC Accredited provider and have a nationally certified NATURE EXPLORE outdoor classroom. I am also a TOP Star and Let’s Move! Child care home, dedicated to the 5 goals to prevent obesity in young children.
In June 2017 I bought The Alta Children Center and in October 2017 opening the Fairyland Preschool & Pre-Kinder care program in Millcreek.

I started caring for and educating children as a nanny in Germany at the age of 18. As this passion grew I studied and in 2008 completed my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, with director and group certification. I also obtained a degree in Accounting. During my studies I worked and volunteered at different childcare centers, gathering a wide variety of experience. Before opening my family childcare I was the lead preschool teacher in the 4 and 5 year-old class at a preschool in Holladay for 2 years.

2013 - Since March 2013 I’ve been a trainer for our local Care About Childcare agency, where I teach the family childcare and other courses to providers. At the NAFCC Conference I received an award as 1 of 5 national initiative winners for Let’s move! Child Care initiative.
2014 - Region 8 Leadership award, in recognition of outstanding efforts and education in the field of family child care.
2015 - In May 2015 I received an honoring award as “Promising Emerging Leader” by Exchange magazine, an early childhood magazine since 1978. I was also the feature teacher and cover page photo for the June/July issue of Teaching Young Children (TYC) magazine, a NAEYC publication. In August 2015 I was awarded provider of the month by Child Care Aware of America.
2016 - I was awarded the Utah Early childhood Teacher of the Year Award.
2017 - National Teacher Award Award. Spotlight provider in the Family Child Care Magazine.

I grew up on a farm in South Africa however German is my first language. I traveled from my home country to the USA in 2004 to be a nanny to wonderful families in Colorado and Virginia. I now live in Sandy, Utah with my husband and two sons. In February 2015 I proudly became a US citizen! In my spare time I enjoy photography, and have written, and illustrated two children’s books.
